Mahle's forged piston technology and manufacturing tolerances are second to none and with these 2ZZ pistons they take it to the next level. Mahle's proprietary piston skirt coating consisting of specialized lubricants and iron not only reduces friction for increased power; it actually allows you to run these pistons in a stock, unmodified 2ZZ cylinder block without sleeves. The cost and convenience advantages are huge. Just measure bore clearance to make sure your block is within spec, file the rings to size, and install them without even removing the engine block from your car.

We run these pistons in our shop 2ZZ engines (including that 750hp drag car!) and have seen excellent results and minimal bore wear. Forged pistons, by their nature, will generally make a little noise and result in some increase in bore wear so those planning on extreme power levels, endurance racing, etc may still want to consider sleeves for longevity.

12.3:1 Compression
These pistons work great in naturally aspirated applications. The increase in compression will improve power and throttle response throughout the RPM range and will complement other modifications like headers, cams, cold air intakes, etc for even better gains.
