Just look at the specs and you’ll see that this is truly a top of the line kit. The Garrett GT series turbochargers have dual ball bearings for a longer life and incredibly quick spoolup. We use the race-proven Type RS blow-off valve from industry leader GReddy- don’t settle for a cheap Chinese knockoff or an undersized leaky plastic Volkswagen valve. Our intercooler core stands a monstrous 18” wide and 12” tall by 3” thick- more than double the size of the intercoolers in some cheaper kits. Cooling is critical in any turbocharger system for maximum power and long-term durability of the engine. Our stainless turbo manifold is professionally TIG welded for maximum strength for a long service life.
The 1ZZ makes a great boosted engine. Straight out of the box you can run the system at 8-10psi to generate 245-275 hp at the wheels. That is enough to run 12-second quarter mile times and easily outrun a C5 Corvette.
Want more? Upgrade those spindly rods and cast pistons with some Crower and Wiseco pieces and add a MWR fuel pump and you can turn the boost up to 13-15psi
Still not enough? Add a fuel pressure regulator kit for even more performance- this allows you to run 17psi or even higher and generate 325-380+ hp to the wheels. At this point your engine is producing over 400hp, enough for 11-second 1/4 mile times.
The results above were all achieved with the GT28RS turbocharger, which usually makes full boost on a stock 1ZZ just above 3000rpm on the street.
Turbo Selection:
If you plan to keep your engine stock or want a great street setup then the GT28RS is your best option. It is capable of about 340whp. Not enough? Choose the GT2871R turbo for up to 385whp and spoolup that is still quite streetable.
Completing the kit:
This kit comes with everything you need for a complete installation on your Celica minus engine management and fuel injectors. Recommendations:
240-275whp (stock engine) - we recommend you add an Apexi Power FC or MWR AEM EMS for engine management and 630cc injectors for fuel. Purchase those items when you purchase the turbo kit and we'll load a base map on the Power FC or EMS free of charge. The base map is a great way to get going fast and easy but we do recommend a fine tune on a dyno for best results.
275-325 whp - you'll also need a fuel pump upgrade as well as appropriate engine modifications.
325+ whp - we recommend adding the MWR FPR and return line kit for best results and safest operation.
Other recommended upgrades:
- ACT XTSS or XTG4 clutches work best with this turbo kit. The stock clutch doesn't stand a chance!
- Boost gauge
- Boost contorller
- Oil pan: the turbo oil drain requires a 5/8" fitting on the oil pan. Choose the Moroso aluminum oil pan or the less expensive MWR modified stock pan for an easy install. You may also add a fitting to your original oil pan (requires welding)
