You can also use any new or used 93-95 MR2 Turbo 5-speed LSD (or non-LSD transmission with an aftermarket LSD installed) to complete the kit. A stock non-LSD transmission will not work with the supplied axle stubs. Transmissions from other model years will not work due to differences in the shifter shaft.
2003-08 Toyota Corolla and Matrix All
We’ve pushed the 1ZZ and 2ZZ harder (950+ hp) and faster (over 200mph) than anyone over the years and as anyone who has modified their Toyota significantly or has run it hard around a race track probably knows, transmission failure has been the limiting factor. The Stock transmission just is not built for severe use or a high torque engine. Finally the nightmare of broken Toyota transmissions is over.
MWR’s E153 swap kit allows you to install the bulletproof 91-95 Toyota MR2 Turbo transmission in your Corolla or Matrix. This transmission has been known to handle the power and abuse of 700-800hp drag cars weighing nearly 3000 lbs over the years without a problem. The gears are simply monstrous compared to the fragile and tiny stock gears. The transmission also has an integral oil cooler (self contained) which keeps temperatures under control even in severe high power road racing conditions. These transmissions even include a factory limited slip differential (LSD) which makes it a great value. This is a viscous style LSD which works great on the street with no noise or unwanted lock-up during parking maneuvers. For those of you who are a little more hardcore we do stock the Kaaz clutch-type LSD and the Quaife torsen style LSD for this transmission, both of which swap in easily.

Installation is strictly bolt-in with no cutting, welding or drilling. The kit uses your stock shifter cables and starter, no wiring changes necessary.
With an upgrade this significant you know there’s no way the tiny 1ZZ/2ZZ clutch is going to cut it. The custom flywheel included with the kit requires your choice of E153 clutches (sold separately.) These monsters are rated from 383 ft-lb to well over 600 ft-lb so no matter what you’ve built there is now an inexpensive bolt-in clutch that will handle it.
