MWR has completely revamped our SMT conversion kit, simplifying things greatly and consolidating it to a single kit, while also significantly reducing the price. Everyone wins!
MWR SMT conversion kits include a mix of brand new Toyota OEM parts, a few refurbished OEM parts, and our own MWR SMT swap parts engineered in-house. After conversion, your car will have every bit of the functionality and reliability of a factory-built manual transmission car. We have worked very hard to minimize cost and difficulty of installation.
Your original transmission and clutch are converted to manual operation and do not even need to be removed from the vehicle during the conversion. Labor is easily accomplished with normal hand tools, and a lift (hoist) is not required. A couple of holes must be cut in sheet metal. Professional installer labor time for the complete conversion is in the 15-18 hour range.

- MWR custom shifter shaft counterweight for better-than-OEM shift quality
- Thoroughly refurbished manual-spec OEM throttle body, idle valve and associated wiring
- Manual-spec Toyota OEM ECU (full OBD functionality, no error codes)
- All required nuts, bolts, washers, clips, etc
- Installation and wiring instructions
- 6-speed variation includes replacement narrow-type OEM brake pedal (5-speed cars came with narrow pedal so this is unneeded)
Note: cruise control is no longer functional after this conversion, as the OEM cruise depends on the SMT type electronic throttle body and ECU. You can add our aftermarket CRUISE CONTROL KIT to regain cruise functionality.
Note: this package includes a USA spec 1ZZ ECU which is set up to read a fuel tank pressure sensor. Some MR2 Spyder models elsewhere in the world (Japan and UK for example) have no sensor so there will be a P0450 code after install. All other functionality will be normal.
