Description
MWR shifter shaft for installing a 6-speed transmission from a:
2000-05 Celica GTS
2004-06 Matrix/Corolla XRS and Vibe GT (does NOT fit 2003 Matrix/Vibe or 01-03 foreign market Corolla Runx/Sportivo – see pic below to identify. Those require THIS shaft)
2005-12 Lotus Elise/Exige 2ZZ 6-speed
…in your 2000-2005 MR2 Spyder Manual.
MWR’s shaft is specially modified to work with ALL of these transmissions and includes the new upgraded MWR blockoff plug you’ll need with the Celica/Lotus applications (no need to buy plug separately)
***The MR2-S 6-speed swap REVERSE BLOCKOUT (sold separately) is also required for install.***
Most people will also want MWR’s CONVERSION LEVER to upgrade the shift lever assembly inside the car for full compatibility with the 6-speed shift pattern to ensure easy reverse gear selection.
These 6-speed transmissions can be installed in the MR2-S with the stock 1ZZ-FE or with a 2ZZ-GE swap. No other parts are needed, your original axles and mounts and external shift mechanism all swap over.
If you are using a Matrix/Corolla/Vibe 6-speed transmission please be aware that you will need to drill and tap two M10x1.25 holes in your transmission case to complete this swap. Our instructions include detail for this operation. Also, see pic below to make sure that you have purchased the correct shifter shaft for your transmission (this shaft fits the 04+ model – if you have a 01-03 or earlier then you need THIS SHAFT):

Celica transmissions are easily identified because they have the shift (selector) shaft exiting the opposite direction, toward the front of the car:

IF YOU HAVE A 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION FROM ANY MODEL YEAR CELICA THEN THIS IS THE RIGHT SHAFT

The kit with reverse blackout is really great.
The one not obvious thing is that the shaft bushing is way out of the housing. You will need to hammer it way back using the old shaft so the new shaft doesn’t come out of the bushing and possibly get stuck in reverse

The shaft works great. Shifts smooth as silk. Make sure you pay attention to which way you have the shaft when you assemble. I put mine together upside down. I literally took me 2 minutes to dissasemble it and reassemble it correctly after having it apart once already.
